WHAT IS MOLD

Mold is a colloquial term for a plaque, formed by a number of fungal species on surfaces of various objects and materials.

Spores (tiny "seeds" of fungi, which are invisible to the human eye) freely airborne and together with other microorganisms (viruses and bacteria) are found in the air of any human dwelling, and in the ambient environment.

After getting in favorable conditions (i.e. humid or poorly ventilated areas), the spores germinate and form a whole colonies of fungi. Those, in turn, give life to billions of new spores. That is how mold fungi exist and spread.

It is believed that the ideal conditions for emergence and spread of mold are as follows: moisture content of materials more than 5%, the air temperature of about +20C and relative humidity above 95%. Bad air exchange supports fungal growth.

Thus, in conditions of high humidity and insufficient ventilation at room temperature, mold actively multiplies in many materials and coatings used inside buildings, including concrete, plaster, wood, plastics, rubber, fabric base of linoleum, painted surfaces, carpets, laminates, etc.

Worst of all, eventually mold fungi not only settle on the surface of the material, but also penetrate inside. The thinnest threads of mycelium (approximately 1 micron) envelop the building structure and penetrate it deeper and deeper.

Black or gray spots look like dirt, and there is unpleasant musty smell in the air. The cause of the smell is activity of microorganisms, that is, emission of volatile compounds.

Inhaling the air containing such substances is extremely dangerous to health.

Fungal spores and volatile organic compounds allocated by fungi can be a cause of dizziness, intoxication and other kinds of illnesses.

They cause headaches, allergic skin and respiratory diseases and other health problems, like migraine, runny nose, ear infection, bronchitis, rhinitis, asthma, cardiovascular disorders, mycotoxicosis.

Mold can also cause wheezing, shortness of breath, shallow and difficulty breathing, eye irritation (redness, tearing and burning), swelling of nasal sinuses, dry hacking cough, rash and irritation of the skin, scratchy throat. Mold can cause children’s allergic diathesis that can pass in asthma. It is known that mold can cause diseases such as tuberculosis, osteoporosis, bone disease, dementia, and even cancer.

Devastating effect of mold on construction materials and the buildings themselves is also a well-known fact.

Microscopic fungal spores of mold fly through the air, fall on the wet surface of wood, stone, or concrete, and then germinate finest threads (mycelium) and destroy these materials.

Waste products of fungi contain chemically active mineral and organic acids, which are spread through the smallest capillaries on building materials and eventually destroy them. Concrete and brick lose their strength, gradually get destroyed and thus buildings are deteriorating. Contaminated wooden structures may lose their bearing capacity in a few years, as the fungus that lives in wood, produces an enzyme which breaks down cellulose (the structural framework of wood). When wood dries up naturally for a long time, it is threatened by decay and mold.

WHAT IS NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

If mold is already there…

Mold does not happen without dampness. High humidity and poor ventilation in combination with high temperature are the most favorable conditions for multiplication of mold, so the first step is to remove the causes that gave rise to the mold, and that means getting rid of moisture in the room.

Possible causes of high humidity indoors

Suggested solutions

1. Exterior walls of the house have not dried out after construction

Increase the room temperature, and ensure regular ventilating.

2. The exterior walls get damp due to incorrectly installed gutters, sills and / or poor hydro insulation of the facade, interpanel joints and / or other elements.

Expert help or a specialized organization is necessary (set of measures for installation or repair of gutters / sills and / or processing of the outer wall by water-repellent materials).

3. Weak ventilation of the room or individual walls:
- the walls are tightly closed by furniture;
- opening vents are closed by furniture, paintings or other objects;
- vents or ducts were closed or dismantled during redevelopment (possibly in the next room).

Release problematic walls from the furniture, check traction, and if necessary, release or recover channels and / or boxes.

4. Sealed plastic windows do not have vent
valves.

Regularly ventilate the room or provide
additional ventilation.

5. The walls freeze through in case of
inadequate heating or insufficient thermal insulation of the walls, the point" is shifted to the inside of the walls and they get damp
(ideal temperature for development of mold is between +5°C and +15°C).

Increase the room temperature by heating and / or insulation of the walls / slopes and other activities (from inside or outside).

6. Poor production or installation quality of the windows, and as a result penetration of moisture (rain, snow) and / or freezing of windows.

Expert help or a specialized organization is necessary

7. In poorly heated rooms with inadequate
ventilation for the following reasons:
- frequent hanging out of wet clothes;
- leaking taps;
- a lot of houseplants.

Increase the room temperature (by heating and
/or insulation of the walls / slopes and other activities (from inside or outside); and ensure proper ventilation or regular airing.

Thus, the causes of mold are found and eliminated. Excellent!

HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT ALREADY EXISTING MOULD WILL GO AWAY ONCE AND FOR ALL.

DO NOT THINK THAT HYDRO INSULATION OF SURFACES WILL HELP YOU PREVENT FURTHER GROWING OF ALREADY EXISTING MOLD, BECAUSE MOLD FUNGI WILL SPROUT THROUGH ANY HYDRO INSULATING COATING, THUS DESTROYING THE COATING ITSELF.

CONCLUSION: THE MOLD SHOULD BE DESTROYED COMPLETELY AND THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DEPTH OF THE SURFACE BEFORE APPLYING THE HYDRO INSULATION COATING.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy and now you have to declare a war to mold and destroy it. This is how you can get rid of it once and for all:

The works should be carried out in well-ventilated areas or in the open air at the temperature of the treated surface and the environment not lower than +5C.

Before applying the NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS you should carefully read this instruction and follow its requirements.

1. Remove the elements of interior decoration or porous finishing materials (cladding panels, parts of laminate, carpet, etc.) which are deeply affected by mold.

2. You should carefully clean the solid base. Using a spatula and metal or rigid synthetic brush you should remove growths or plaque of mold, dirt, loose particles of moldy putty or plaster, "laitance" (it prevents penetration of the material into the base infected by fungus). Scraping of the surface with mold should be done very thoroughly and taking up significant spare area.

3. After cleaning the surface, it is recommended to dedust the surface by a damp cloth and dry it up afterwards.
The surface prior to application of 【NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS】 material should be as dried as possible (weight moisture content should not exceed
8%).

It is not permitted to apply 【NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS】 on wet or icy surfaces!

The temperature of the treated surface and the environment should not be lower than +5C.

4. NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS can be applied by a brush, roller, sponge or spray until heavy saturation of the surface. Not only the area with mold should be processed, but also as much area around as possible.

5. Allow the surface to dry up (for 6-12 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity). Humidity of 75% leads to increasing of drying time.

6. Using a stiff brush, remove visible traces of dead organisms and dead mold which came to the surface.

7. Re-apply NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS to heavy saturation of the surface.

8. Allow the surface to dry up and clean it again if necessary.

The above operation should be repeated until the surface remains clean after drying (usually 2-3 times).

For effective dealing with mold it is recommended to process not only the areas affected by mold, but also (with prevention purpose) all the premises, because spores which are reproduced by mold fungi, are present in the room in high concentrations and can grow through in any other place.

During construction and repair works it is recommended to carry out preventive treatment of the building. The places which should be processed by anti-mold materials are the ones where moisture is most likely to occur (kitchen, bathroom, toilet, balcony, basement, northern side of the building, and corners of the building).

Consumption of 【NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS】 depends on the porosity and condition of the surface (roughness, bumps, number of joints, etc.), and constitutes 150 - 250g on application of 1 square meter of the surface one time.

Use water for cleaning the tools (immediately after application).

9. The surface should be dried and processed by NANO-FIX ™ polymer penetrating material (following the instructions for use of NANO- FIX™).

10. Produce a final finishing of the surfaces (plastering, painting or decorative cladding materials, etc. in the usual way).

Using as preventative supplements:

In order to prevent emergence and development of mold 100-200ml of
NANO-POLYMER DEEP PENETRATION MATERIALS should be added:

- For every 10 liters of primer, diluted wallpaper paste, and other kinds of water-based liquids;
- For every 30 kg of dry construction mixtures (plaster, putty, tile adhesives, tile grout, etc.) - directly when diluted or into already diluted material.
